A woman fearlessly ran after a large bear to protect her beloved dog from harm.
Animals are unique and fascinating creatures. They all have endless ways to keep us entertained, surprised and laughing. Those furry, four-legged beings also have a way of quickly finding their way into our hearts. It gets to the point that doing or celebrating anything significant without them feels wrong and out of place.
Many people who have animals will often say they are “fur parents” because they have “fur babies.” I think that sounds a bit odd, but to each their own. Just say you love your dog or cat, right?
Regardless, most pet owners would do absolutely anything for their canine or feline, including fighting off a black bear. A clip posted on YouTube shows that was precisely what Bailey Jacobsen did when she saw her German Shepherd, Zeus, being chased by a bear.
The situation begins when Zeus unknowingly encounters a mama bear and her cubs. Mama would not let any harm come to her babies, so she chases Zeus. Zeus, understanding that he is outmatched, starts high-tailing into the woods.
However, before Zeus and the upset mama bear disappeared into the wooded area, Bailey came across the disturbing scene. She immediately started screaming and then gave chase to the bear, hoping to take the bear’s focus off Zeus.
Bailey’s protective maneuver was successful. The mama bear then stopped chasing Zeus and started coming after her. Eventually, Bailey outran the animal, and the bear, caught on camera, stopped.
Thankfully, no one – the mama bear, Zeus or Bailey – was injured during the scary ordeal.
In an interview, Bailey admits that her actions at that moment were instinctual and she did not give it a second thought.
“For me, it was like an instinct,” she said. “It wasn’t even really a second thought, like, ‘Should I chase the bear?’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to.’
